New Phone Who Dis???

So it finally happened. I had to do it. I didn't want to, but changes had to be made. I had to let my old phone go. We had a good 4 years together. Which is a long time for a smartphone life cycle. Back in my day cell phones lasted 8 years easy. Sure they weren't as fancy as today's but they were durable and made phone calls just fine.

Ok, let me stop showing my age. But I did have to buy a new phone the other day because I thought I murdered my old one. As you know I work outside and the weather in Jersey has been ridiculous. It was spring in the morning; fall by the afternoon with winds and rain. The evening brought winter and a whole bunch of snow. Now we all know smartphones have come a long way with water resistance, but you can never be too sure how much moisture is too much moisture. Since my phone is older, the battery is basically non existent. It died three times on me. The final time had me terrified and praying to the phone gods because it would not turn on at all. Even after charging for 30 mins.

Now I feel like an old person trying to figure out this new phone. Who is basically a stranger. I feel like my parents and I don't like it. I blame the president, if he hadn't started throwing bans on everything Chinese I could have gotten the phone I wanted. I discovered the Hauwei company a few years ago and it was refreshing having a phone that pretty much did what all the "high end" smartphones were doing for a fraction of the cost. Do you know how many Samsung Galaxys I went through before I got to Hauwei? Those things ain't cheap! I may as well get an iPhone and join team Mac because I would have to learn a whole new interface. I'm not doing that. I'm old people now, I was there when the first iPhone dropped back in 2007 when flip phones were a thing. My parents made us an Android household because they paid the bill and that was that.

Anyway, since all that went down with China, Google had to politely excuse themselves from the interface and said they can't work with Hauwei anymore. Meaning, the phone I wanted would not be supported by Google. Oh, don't think Hauwei took Google leaving sitting down. They responded "no worries, you can go. But don't think you won't be replaced." (Paraphrasing, because it's more fun).

Now word on the street is that all the big smartphone tycoons in China have united to take down Google. I don't know how far it will go but I had to say goodbye to Hauwei for now and slide into neutral territory with Nokia. Yes, they still make phones. Yes, they do have the old small ones on they're site for sale. The basically indestructible ones. To think there was a time when cell phones could be dropped, ran over with cars, survive being in the washer and dryer and still work like it was brand new. Memories.

Thanks again to who ever comes to my site, I thank you. I'm going to try to get a working schedule on here. A lot of life changes are happening for the better I think.

Till next time,
Didd1y
