Death of a Planet.... But really. At least not yet.
Hey guys, so if you don't know we may all be dead by next year. I was on my phone earlier today about to Google something. My phone now shows me what's trending on google. Which is cool, but also distracting since I forget what I'm actually looking for on the Internet. I noticed the latest thing trending was "asteroid hit earth NASA". My stomach dropped a bit after reading that. Not because I fully believed the headline but more so because not even 20 years ago they were saying the same thing. So of course I click on it because asteroids and earth trending isn't something that should be ignored. I can't leave this planet, the rich haven't commercialized space travel yet. I need to know how long I have before the end. I have quite a few things on my bucket list that need to get done. Places I need to see. At least get 4 more stamps in my passport. Get out of this job and start a new career, it's too much. I'm not ready to go yet! After clicking on the trending topic the first thing to pop up says "100% chance of impact" from the Daily Express. I learned about the Daily Express today, they seem to be from the UK. I scroll on down past the article to see what other sites were saying in their headlines, some had similar titles others not as dramatic. So I checked NASA. NASA said, "yes there are asteroids out there that could destroy the Earth. We're watching the skies and we'll let you know if anything gets too close. As of right now, there's one that might get too close... It might not... We'll keep you posted." (A very basic summery of what it said). I relaxed a little bit after that. After a few hours pass I go back to looking up something else and notice the asteroid news has gone up in the ranks, so I panic slightly. Thinking to myself, "did I not read that NASA article all the way through? I mean I did skim over some stuff, but generally over all they said we're good... Right?"
I click on it again, same Daily Express sitting at the top. Still "100% impact", I clicked on the article. According to the Daily Express, the planet will be hit by an asteroid. The past has proven that the Earth has taken a few blows to the face and life on the planet didn't always make it. It happens every so million years and eventually it will happen again, some day unknown. Then it goes into the Chairman of Parliament for the space nation of Asgardia, Lembit Opik. He was a British politician who campaigned for a defense against space objects, again I'm roughly paraphrasing. He managed to get the government to invest a whole bunch a money to track asteroids and later on initiated the Near-Earth Object Task Group.
Now, with all that being said, I learned a few asteroids just flew by. 2019 OK, 2019 QU4, 2019 QY5 passed the planet a few days go and apparently thew everyone off guard because they didn't see them until they were up close and personal. Which explained why asteroids were trending. What I picked up from the few other articles I read is that we are defenseless. That seemed to be the bottom line of each story. One day something big is going to float our way and we won't be able to stop it. So good news we're not not all the way doomed, bad news one day space rocks will be an issue and we may not be ready for that.
Thanks guys for reading, I had to take a step back from doing this because I was getting worn out. Between work and just being exhausted I couldn't keep it up. Also it was starting to feel forced and not organic, but I hoped you liked my space essay. Oh, and I never did remember what it was I was looking up.
Until next time,
Didd1y.
